What Is School For?

When education is defined as the memory of what is written on the blackboard or book and that memory is a competitive endeavor then it is worthless. I still remember the theorem of Pythagoras but that is irrelevant. When I did critical thinking at NYU my professor told me go to classes not to remember but to understand. The abilty to factorize trinomials is an exercise in optimizing your environment not in remembering the formula or what you are told. I attend events around the world and listen to an amazing teacher. After the event some folks who weren;t here will ask me so what did He say? And most times I wouldn't remember but I took something away from those classes that brightened my day even when I was down there was an element of hope that was encouraging. I open my eyes and flow of color and shapes are absorbed, but that is not all that is happening. It is being converted into biochemical signals that my brain understand and it gets stored in the limbic system for posterior reference should it be needed again. And even that absortion of data has a quantum existence that is working for me.
