Why I Travel to See Prem Rawat

"We don't need wings to fly. We just need to cut the ropes to all that holds us back." - Prem Rawat, Queensland (Amaroo), Australia, Sept. 12, 2025
It's been 55 years since I first received the gift of Self-Knowledge from Prem Rawat -- an experience that has helped me discover deep peace, joy and gratitude within my self.
Prem was 13 then and I was 23. He is now 68 and I am 78. Much has changed for both of us since that time. But there is one thing that hasn't changed and that is the breath of life keeping us alive.
This breath enters from who knows where and exits to who knows where. But while it does -- and for however long it continues -- both of us get the extraordinary opportunity to enjoy this great play of life.
I am super grateful to Prem for all of the encouragement, inspiration and love he has showered on me all these many years. But not just me -- millions of people from more than 100 countries, each moved by the same aspiration to enjoy their existence with as much appreciation, contentment and wisdom as possible.
Just three weeks ago I flew from Albany, NY to see him speak at an event in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I'm glad I went. It was an immensely nurturing experience -- plus a whole lot of fun.
Friends of mine who know about Prem but are not his students, sometimes ask me why I travel such distances to see this man.
"Don't you already know what he's going to say?" they ask.

And yes, in a way I do -- some version of "the peace you are looking for is within." But the reason why I travel to see Prem Rawat has less to do with his words than the experience of being in his presence. No matter how inspiring his words might be on any given day, what he’s talking about goes far beyond language.
Something else is happening when I see him -- something I do not have adequate words to describe, even though for the past 55 years as a writer and poet I've written volumes about him and the service he provides.
"It's like the taste of a mango," Prem once said.
Bingo! Yes! Spot on!
Real experience is what Prem is helping people tune into -- the experience of fulfillment, inner knowing and genuine inner peace. Not just theory or words.
When it comes right down to it, each person needs to have their own experience of the proverbial mango Prem refers to -- the sweet fruit of our own true nature. Describing the taste only goes so far.
Maybe that's why I travel to see the illustrious Prem Rawat whenever I can -- to taste the mango.
PS: A person does not need to travel in order to enjoy Prem's message and the experience he evokes. Most of his talks are live streamed and there are many other ways to enjoy his content -- online videos, podcasts, websites, songs and his wonderful books.
PS: Speaking of friends of mine who are not Prem's students

Three weeks ago, my good buddy Nathan happened to be visiting his son in Florida when I traveled to Fort Lauderdale to see Prem Rawat. Knowing that Nathan had attended one of Prem's events back in 2010 -- and enjoyed it -- I invited him to be my guest.
Good ol' Nate accepted and sat next to me at the gathering.
The next day, I interviewed Nathan about his experience. A few weeks later, this interview was published on PremRawat.com.
Here it is for your enjoyment.
