"36 Hours in Luang Prabang, Laos"
In this New York Times article, journalist Mary Billard illustrates what it's like to spend a day and a half in Luang Prabang Laos, the province where the Deak Kum Pa orphanage is! She describes her experience scaling a sacred mountain, shopping in the street market, meeting Laotian monks, exploring art galleries, and eating the best food in Luang Prabang. If you want to learn more about where the One Voice for Laos group is planning to go this summer, check it out!

Loop For Laos: 5K Fundraiser in Woodstock, NY On October 15, the culmination of several months of preparation will take place in the form of a 5 kilometer run through Woodstock, New York . The run or walk will be held to benefit the Laotian Deak Kum Pa Orphanage and the 600 children living there in formidable conditions.
This event was organized by teenagers in the group "One Voice for Laos", who hope to eventually travel to the country. Although most group members would love a chance to see the Deak Kum Pa orphanage with their own eyes and make a personal connection with the orphans, the teenagers understand that the best thing they can do for the orphanage right now is raise money.
Rachel Castellano and Caleb Rudge, both seniors at Onteora High School, developed the idea of having a charity run in the generous town of Woodstock to raise both money and awareness for their vital cause. Every dollar generated by this event, titled the "Loop for Laos", will go straight to the orphanage in Luang Prabang province.
With the help of Evelyne Pouget, the group’s adult mentor, they have nearly accomplished their task. Rachel and Caleb hope to raise a substantial amount of money through sponsorships from town businesses, generous citizens, and the entrance fee of $10.00.
Anyone and everyone is welcome to participate in the great event and support their cause. The first fifty people to sign up will receive a free t-shirt upon registering! Anybody who is interested in signing up, sponsoring the event, or finding out more should please E-mail Caleb Rudge at caleb.rudge@gmail.com.

September 09, 2011One Voice and the Good Life!
Good news!
Cathy McNamara (co-owner of Woodstock's Mountain View Studio and publisher of Good Life -- a new, quarterly teen newspaper) has graciously invited One Voice/Teens for Change to write a column for their publication.
What a great way to get the word out -- and share what we are learning with thousands of other teens in the area.
Anyone want to write the column? (Kathy pays $40 per article!)

September 08, 2011Our Main Contact at the Orphanage
When Evelyne visited the Deak Kum Pa Orphanage last March, she met with Andrew Brown, an Australian living in Luang Prabang, who is basically dedicating his life to improving the quality of life for 600 orphans. This man has a heart of gold and wouldn't it be cool to make him a CNN hero?

The Deak Kum Pa Orphanage is in Luang Prabang, a beautiful town in Laos. In addition to the orphanage, the town is home to 33 Buddhist temples and many, many monks. The spirit of the place is one of giving, reflection, and appreciation.
